  • Greetings!

We hope you have a safe and happy July 4th holiday tomorrow. Despite a forecast of some rain, hopefully you can still fire up your grill and enjoy your favorite foods with a great glass of wine. As a reminder, The Savory Grape will be closed on July 4th to allow our staff to spend time with family and friends. We will remain open until 9 pm on Tuesday, July 3 to help meet all your last minute shopping needs.

Please join us both Friday and Saturday for a tasting of The Savory Grape staff's favorite selections, which include some from California, Italy and Australia. Also, if you were not able to purchase the Italian Rose from last Friday's tasting because we sold out so quickly, it will be coming back in today.

    This Week's Savory Selections

  • 2005 Bouchaine Estate Chardonnay, Carneros. Bouchaine Vineyards is one of, if not, the oldest continually operated wineries in the Carneros region of Napa Valley. Established in 1928 by an Italian immigrant Johnny Garetto, and then purchased in 1981 by a Wilmington, Delaware couple, the winery has sustained a long legacy of family ownership. Following the couple's dream of specializing in Burgundy varietals, the vineyard focuses solely on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The winery's beautiful façade is made from recycled redwood from the winery's original wine tanks. The 2005 Estate Chardonnay is bright with citrusy flavors graced with lovely hints of oak. Its fruit flavors, bright acidity, notable texture and relentless finish harmonize in an elegant, stylish wine. Straw gold in color, it dances in the glass like sunlight. ($20.99)
  • 2003 Merriam Vineyards "Block 21" Dry Creek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Born in New England -Diana in Massachusetts and Peter in Maine- Peter and Diana Merriam have had a love of wine for more than 20 years. Little did they think when they met at a New England college that their decision to honeymoon in France would be the beginning of a life long passion for wine. They have been back to France numerous times as well as other wine growing regions, and their love of wine and wine making culminated in the purchase of a vineyard in the Russian River Valley, which they named Windacre Vineyard after their home in Maine where the Merriams and their children spend summers. With only 565 total cases produced and even a much smaller amount coming into Rhode Island, this is a divine selection worth scooping up and saving for later, if you can. A beautiful, deep, dark ruby color, this full, luscious Cabernet has aromas and flavors of bing cherry, raspberry and bittersweet chocolate. It exudes toasty notes from its fermentation in new and old oak barrels. ($39.99)
