  • Greetings!

This upcoming weekend we have some exciting tastings planned. Friday, we will hold a Battle of the Rosés. Tasting three different Rosés from three different countries, we will have you be the judge of the pink drink for the summer. And on Saturday, we are thrilled to hold an artist reception for Erin Manchester, whose work is being featured at The Savory Grape. From 6 pm-9 pm, Manchester will be at The Savory Grape to share her international experiences as a Peace Corps member that were an inspiration for her photography. In celebration of Manchester's appearance, we will hold an international themed wine tasting. (Please note that this Saturday's wine tasting will be from 6 pm- 9 pm, not the usual 3 pm-7pm.) For more information about Manchester, visit www.interpretations-ri.com. ) Please join us this weekend for two nights of fun!

Don't forget Father's Day! The Wine Club is the perfect gift, so sign up early to get your favorite gentleman enrolled for June. Contact us for more details.

    This Week's Savory Selections

  • 2004 Caymus Special Select Cabernet Sauvignon. You may remember earlier this year we sold out of the 2004 Caymus Special Select Cabernet Sauvignon. Well, Caymus has released additional bottles of this selection, and we are pleased to say we are being allocated a very small amount that will be coming in within a week. If you are interested in obtaining this wine, please email us. Payment will be required to reserve this selection. ($139)
  • 2005 Ornellaia Le Volte, Italy. The 2005 vintage of Le Volte just arrived, and we are quite ecstatic about this. This wine is a harmonious blending of noble Tuscan grape varieties, combining vivacious personality with rich flavors of the territory. The result, true to the Ornellaia philosophy, is a well balanced wine of great charm and finesse. Elegant and enjoyable, the 2005 vintage is characterized by ample fruity, slightly spicy notes. Round and full in the mouth, it combines the Mediterranean generosity of Sangiovese with the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon and the softer tones of Merlot, creating an extremely pleasant wine. ($28.99)
  • 2005 Chartron La Fleur Blanc, Bordeaux. This is a fantastic Sauvignon Blanc from Bordeaux that is overwhelmingly smooth for its price. On the nose, we note bright citrus and green apple aromas. On the palate, we get crisp melon flavors with smooth lemon-lime undertones and a touch of minerality and herbaceousness. Superb with salads of summer, citrus rubbed chicken and light grilled white fish. ($10.49)
  • Weekend Wine Tastings
    Vitiano Falesco

Friday, June 8 (5pm to 8 pm) Battle of the Rosés

    • 2006 Falesco Vitiano Rosé Umbria, Italy. This Rosé is produced in the Umbria region of Italy from a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a touch of Aleatico. The grapes are perfectly ripened and then manually picked. The wine is then fermented in stainless steel tanks to maintain optimum freshness and clean fruit flavors. This wine has a big, sweet nose of strawberries, plums, cranberries, and flowers. In short, it's a fruity, dry, medium-bodied Rosé possessing abundant personality. This is a perfect wine for summer, and an accompaniment to grilled fish or shellfish. ($10.99)
    • 2006 Pink La Grenouille Rougante, Napa Valley California. Here is Frog's Leap Rosé from Napa Valley. With a blend of 98% Valdigue (known in the United States as Napa Gamay) and 2% Petite Sirah, Frog's Leap has produced a fun, light refreshing wine. Aromas of watermelon, rhubarb and hints of white flowers fill the glass while summer fruit flavors of strawberry, sour cherry and watermelon quench one's thirst. Lifted by bright, natural acid and low alcohol, the wine is lively, crisp and refreshing, the perfect companion to a warm, sunny day. ($12.99)
    • 2006 Domaine Faillenc Sainte Marie Rosé, France. Moving back to Europe, this Rosé is produced from the Faillenc Sainte Marie property which is located in the foothills of Mont Alaric. The property is composed of inhospitable, rocky limestone terraces where only vines, olive trees, and some bushes manage to survive, and as a result yields are naturally low. The grapes in this Rosé are 100% Syrah and produce smells of strawberries and red licorice. This smooth, creamy wine is off-dry and juicy with peach and red berry flavors. It pairs well with a fruit tart or spicy Thai chicken dishes. ($16.99)

Saturday, June 9 (6 pm to 9 pm) International Wine Tasting

    • 2006 Newport Vineyards Riesling. Newport Vineyards is the largest grower of wine grapes in New England and is recognized as a landmark attraction in Newport County, continuing the tradition of growing quality wines on preserved farmland. A grape that flourishes in cool climates, its Riesling possesses floral aromas and a crisp texture. Slightly off-dry, with sweet floral aromas, this wine has rich melon and mineral flavors and a refreshing finish. It is a great pairing for soft cheeses such as Camembert, Brie, as well as spicy cuisine. ($11.49)
    • 2005 Valley of the Moon Pinot Blanc, California. This traditional Alsatian-style wine is a blend of grapes from vineyards that are located in California's Russian River Valley and southern Sonoma Valley. This Pinot Blanc was gently pressed into stainless steel tanks and fermented at a cool temperature to preserve the grapes's fruit aromas and crisp flavors. After fermentation, 10% of the wine is aged in French oak barrels to add subtle flavor of oak and complexity. This wine has a crisp acidity and is fresh with aromas of pair and mango, followed by tropical flavors and a citrus finish. ($15.49)
    • 2001 Chateau de Pitray, Bordeaux, France. This appellation, Côtes de Castillon, is on the rise, and it gives an excellent price/quality ratio as new producers are settling down to make among the most interesting wines in Bordeaux today. Côtes de Castillon is located just east of St-Émilion and south of Fronsac. The region is Merlot-based like its surrounding neighbors and produces great value wines with right bank characteristics. Wines of Castillon are delicious & affordable for enjoying the right-bank of Bordeaux. They also have the additional benefit of being approachable when young, but also able to age and improve with years in the bottle. This beautifully structured wine offers cassis and ripe berries with underlying notes of wood and soft tannins. ($13.99)
    • 2003 Capezzana Carmignano, Italy. The Carmignano Villa di Capezzana is a well made wine which features berry, tobacco leaf, sage, and cloves on the nose and elegant, sustained black currant and mineral flavors. Dark, with intense aromas of dried fruit and hints of raisin, it is a full-bodied wine, with a long, silky, slightly peppery finish. Very elegant, balanced and polished, it should provide ten good years of drinking pleasure. ($35.99)
