  • Greetings!

With the weather just so this past holiday weekend, we personally couldn't have asked for a better one. We hope you too had an enjoyable experience and a great weekend. Since this is a short week for most of us, please join us in a couple of days for our weekend wine tastings.

    Savory Grape Upcoming Events

Artist Showing and Wine Tasting. Please join us on Saturday, June 9th to welcome artist Erin Manchester whose photography is now featured in the tasting room at The Savory Grape. As a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, Manchester's works showcase her travel excursions throughout the US and Europe, allowing her to become part of a culture that taught her much about how to truly live life and give back to those living with so little. A portion of the sales from Manchester's work is donated to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. For more information on Manchester, please visit www.interpretations-ri.com.

Wines of Summer Tasting. Please stay tuned for more information on our Wines of Summer tasting at Main Street Coffee on Monday, June 18th at 7 pm. Tickets will go on sale shortly. This will be our last monthly tasting of the season. We will restart the casual, monthly wine tastings in September.

    Weekend Wine Tastings
    Huber Hugo

Friday, June 1 (5pm to 8 pm) Summer Wine Selections

    • 2005 Huber Hugo GrĂ¼ner Veltliner, Austria. Once seen, you will never forget the Huber Hugo label - always donned with bright, vertical-lined colors that change from vintage to vintage. The Huber Vineyards are situated along the Traisen River in the Traisental region of Austria, and they have been producing wine for five generations. Selection of only physiologically ripe grapes are crushed and cooled, and then left in contact with skins for three hours. The grapes are pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks. The resulting wine is crisp and fresh with green apple fruity aromas. The flavors displayed on the palate are of lemon, lime and peaches with a solid fruit core. This wine pairs wonderfully with seafood, white meat, and light dishes such as salads. The Huber Hugo is a refreshing summer wine for a hot day. ($10.99)
    • 2005 Castilla Con Class, Spain. The Con Class Rueda white is a blend of 80% Verdejo, 10% Viura, and 10% Sauvignon Blanc. The Verdejo grape, being the majority of the blend, is the principal grape of Spain's Rueda region, which is located 105 miles Northwest of Madrid. Harvest of the grapes is completely done by hand and then aged exclusively in stainless steel tanks for 6 months on its lees. There is a small amount of lees stirring and by doing so introduces a bit more texture into the wine. This wine produces wonderful aromas of luscious citrus, passion and kiwi fruits. There are flavors of tangy gooseberry, elderflower, and pears. ($10.99)
    • 2005 Parducci Pinot Noir, California. Parducci is "family farmed," locally owned and operated in California's Mendocino County. The Parducci Pinot Noir is one of many wines that they produce with organically grown grapes. This wine displays aromas of black cherry and plum with a touch of clove spice. The mouth flavors echo the nose aromas and are a great match with ham or lighter pasta dishes. A great Pinot for the price. ($10.99)

Saturday, June 2 (3 pm to 7 pm) New Zealand Summer Selections

    • 2005 Spy Valley Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand. Another great wine from the Marlborough Region of New Zealand. This Sauvignon Blanc from Spy Valley was tank fermented and then aged on full lees for six weeks. Once the wine is fermented and the lees (dead yeast cells) fall to the bottom, many winemakers will not filter out the lees thereby adding structure, depth and complexity to the wine because of their presence. This resultant wine is full of pungent passionfruit and grapefruit aromas. Generous fruit flavors and enhanced textures through lees aging have given this wine great interest across the palate. ($16.49)
    • 2006 Matua Valley Pinot Noir, New Zealand. This Pinot Noir also comes from New Zealand's Marlborough Region. Although the region has established itself as the Sauvignon Blanc capital of the world it also has produced many other great wines, such as Pinot Noirs. This Pinot Noir has been fermented in a mix of seasoned French and American oak along with stainless steel tanks. Vibrant light cherry red in color, the nose exhibits perfumed violet aromas, complementing sweet cherry fruit. The palate displays soft, rich strawberry and raspberry fruits, balanced with integrated lingering oak, resulting in a palate of length and complexity. This wine would pair well with a Thai-style lamb dish. ($13.99)
