  • Weekend Wine Tastings
  • Greetings!

For the most part the holidays have come and gone, but of course the New Year still awaits. After being left almost empty from the surge of holiday shoppers last week, we have restocked the store. With new Prosecco and Champagne selections in stock, we are more than prepared to help you pick the perfect bubbly to ring in the New Year, despite the impending snow.

As a reminder, we will be open tomorrow, New Year's Eve, from 10 AM to 6 PM and will be closed New Year's Day. The shop will reopen on Friday, January 2 from 10 AM to 9 PM with an in-store tasting that evening. This weekend's tasting schedule (below) focuses on a variety of new selections that we have recently enjoyed and that are easy on the budget.

Please note: Our first wine tasting of 2009 at Main Street Coffee will be held on Monday, January 19th at 7 PM with Slocum & Sons Wine's Steven Wynn. Full details on the night's wine lineup will come next week. As always, tickets are $25 per person and seating is limited to only 20 people.

Have a Safe and Happy New Year.
Jessica, Nino, Patrick, Sabrina and Dana

    Weekend Wine Tastings
    Undone

    Friday, January 2nd (5 to 8 PM) Valckenberg's Undone

    • 2007 Valckenberg Undone Pinot Noir, Germany. German Pinot Noir can often be "hit or miss," and recently we found one that was a definite hit. 100% Pinot Noir from Rheinhessen, this unoaked wine is very smooth, with berry and plum notes on the palate. Due to the wine's stainless steel aging, the pure flavors of Pinot Noir show through beautifully. This is a perfect match for wood grilled or cedar planked salmon, pasta and sushi! ($12.49)
    • 2007 Valckenberg Undone Dry Riesling, Germany. Have you always steered clear of Riesling? Afraid it's going to be too sweet? Well, if this sounds familiar, then you owe it to yourself to try this new dry Riesling. Crisp citrus notes, such as grapefruit and gooseberry, stand out on the palate. The wine is vibrant and finishes very clean, almost reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc. This Dry Riesling will pair well with seafood, sushi, and shellfish, as well as salads and lightly sauteed white meats, such as pork and chicken. ($10.99)

Saturday, January 3rd (3 to 7 PM) Our Year-End Staff Favorites

    • 2006 Bucaro Montepulciano D'Abruzzo, Italy. Bucaro combines weighty flavor and distinct sophistication. The fruit is ripe and deep, the oak is noticeable, but not overpowering, and the overall impact harmonious and memorable. Using specially selected grapes, the wine was aged for a year in new oak and then allowed to age also in bottle before release. This wine has been a staff favorite since day one and continues to be vintage after vintage. ($14.99)
    • NV Villa Malena Prosecco, Italy. This gently sparkling wine has nuances of peaches and apricot. Great for celebrations, it is easy on the palate, fresh and clean. Prosecco is always a great alternative to Champagne. Not only is the price easier to swallow, but the wine itself has a little more fruit and a cleaner mouthfeel. Can't make it this weekend, then come in to get this bubbly for New Year's Eve. It was one of our table selections on Christmas Eve. ($14.99)
