  • Greetings!

All of us at The Savory Grape hope you have had an enjoyable holiday season thus far filled with good cheer and, of course, good wine. In advance, we wish you a prosperous and healthy New Year! As a reminder, to allow our team a chance to reenergize, The Savory Grape will be closed Monday, January 1 through Wednesday, January 3. We will reopen on Thursday, January 4. If you need to reach us for any special requests, please call or email us by Sunday, December 31. Additionally, we will not publish an e-newsletter next week, but please check our News and Events page of our web site on Thursday, January 4 for the weekend tasting schedule.

    Upcoming Savory Grape Events

2007 Calendar of Events. We are working diligently on a Calendar of Events to provide you with an array of food and wine opportunities throughout 2007. So please stay tuned for these upcoming announcements.

Store Hours. Please note The Savory Grape Wine Shop hours will change slightly for January and February. The shop will close at 8:30 pm Monday through Saturday, except for the Saturday before Valentine's Day at which time the shop will remain open until 9:30 pm. On Sundays, our hours will remain the same (12 pm - 5 pm).

New Year's Eve Celebrations with Bubbly

Remember when you were a student and there was an exam on the horizon. How often would you study well in advance of the test? The answer for some, not all, of us here at The Savory Grape, and we suspect some of you, is only occasionally. Well, New Year's Eve will be here shortly and you may be asked questions about Sparkling Wine and Champagne. Or you merely may need to bring some along to a party.

Well, in the spirit of examination cramming, The Savory Grape will taste three sparkling wines this weekend. We invite you to join us for the tastings and brush up on Sparkling Wines - just in time for the Sunday night countdown to 2007!! At the shop, we have an array of both Champagne (Veuve Cliquot, Bollinger, Lanson, Louis Roederer, Perrier Jouet, Krug, Dom Perignon and Laurent Perrier) and Sparkling Wines from around the world to suit your tastes and budgets. So, stop in before heading to that New Year's Eve party and select a bottle or two. As my mother, and many generations before her, always said, "you should always ring the doorbell with your elbows as your hands will be carrying a gift."

    Weekend Wine Tastings
    Black Chook

Friday, December 29 (5 pm to 8 pm)

    • The Black Chook Sparkling Shiraz, Australia: This is a wine that dares you to be different - just what you would expect from the Aussies! A sparkling Shiraz is great for those who are not fond of dry Champagne or sparkling wine. This bubbly red has intense red berry flavors, like strawberries, currants, and cherries, which give you a feeling of biting into berries. This is truly a different, yet enjoyable experience, something often found at the shop. ($16.49)
    • Gruet Brut NV Sparkling Wine, New Mexico: A sparkling wine from New Mexico? Well, us as well as many others who have wanted to experience something different love this bubbly. The Gruet vineyard, as well as many other New Mexico vineyards, has been producing wines for a long time and the brut sparkling made using the Champagne Method (Methode Champenoise) is fantastic. Gruet is a brilliant sparkling wine with ultra fine bubbles that has a fine bouquet dominated by green apple and grapefruit flavors. ($15.49)

Saturday, December 30 (1 pm to 6 pm)

    • Laetitia Brut Cuvee, California: This cuvee is produced also using the Champagne Method (Methode Champenoise) and is comprised of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varietals. Chardonnay gives body to the wine and adds elegant citrus flavors; Pinot Noir adds subtle dusty black cherry flavors. Traces of almond and vanilla round out the palate, offering us a fresh and lively, lingering finish. This bubbly will surely please many! ($16.99)
    • Laetitia Pinot Noir, California: Not a bubbly but a true favorite among Savory Grape regulars. The wine is balanced and elegant, and shows a concentrated mix of black cherry and plum flavors and aromas. It is plush and velvet textured, layered with intense floral notes and subtle nuances. Stylish, it ends with a long memorable finish. ($20.99)
