  • Greetings!

This past weekend, we saw many of you in the store choosing your Thanksgiving wines. We want to extend our warmest thanks to you for coming in and shopping local. Please know that your support is appreciated by all of us at The Savory Grape.

However if are busily running around, like me, and haven't yet picked up your libations for Thursday, we have extended our hours tomorrow, Tuesday, and Wednesday for your convenience - 9 AM to 10 PM. We look forward to helping you choose the right wines for one of our favorite holidays.

Additionally, please be sure to stop in this weekend with your out-of-town family and friends. To kick off the holiday season, we will offer a "Black Weekend" promotion of 20% off any wine accessories (including books, wine racks, fine glassware, decanters), and will offer a selection of staff favorites to taste with you on Friday and Saturday.

With warmest thoughts and wishes for a beautiful Thanksgiving,
Jessica, Nino, Patrick, Sabrina and Dana

We look forward to easing your stress this holiday season.

December 15th Wine Tasting. Please join us on Monday, December 15th, as we taste various wines known as Meritage, that is wines blended from the varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec or Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Sauvignon Vert. Join us as we explain what Meritage (rhymes with "heritage") means as well as taste many of these wines. We also will provide suggested food recommendations. The tasting begins at 7 PM at Main St. Coffee (MSC) in EG. Tickets are $25 and must be purchased at time of reservation at TSG (886-9463) or MSC (885-8787).

Rhode Island Food Bank. As a reminder, this is the last week that we will be collecting nonperishable food items for the RI Community Food Bank. EG and Wickford are competing in this food drive to see which town can collect the most. So please drop off your nonperishables at the shop.

    IByst Shiraz

    Friday, November 28th (5 to 8 PM)
    New Staff Selections

    • 2005 Innocent Bystander Shiraz/Viogner, Australia. Catchy label on the outside, great wine on the inside. It has a velvety mouthfeel and chewy finish with luscious flavors of plums, dark fruits and blueberries accented with soft spices. From wood fired pizza to stir-fried Chinese noodles, this wine is comforting and one we love! ($12.99)
    • 2006 Kuentz Bas Pinot Blanc, Alsace, France. Pinot Blanc is a mutation of the grape Pinot Gris that is itself a mutation of Pinot Noir. Pinot Blancs vary greatly by region, and this one is medium bodied, unoaked and crisp, with juicy hints of peaches and apricots. Dry with some minerality, it is terrific as a partner for the Thanksgiving feast, as well as seafood, including sushi. ($13.99)

    Saturday, November 29th (3 to 7 PM)
    New Staff Selections

    • 2006 Cantalupi Primitivo, Puglia, Italy. Primitivo, known as the father of the Zinfandel grape, dates back many centuries, often thought to have originated in Greece. Thank gosh we have it here today. As most Zins do, this brooding selection has a rich, dark red color. Rich and vibrant, its spicy nose makes way for a zesty palate of raspberry and cocoa that linger nicely. ($15.99)
    • 2007 Maculan Pino & Toi, Italy. This is a great wine, and I can't emphasize that enough! From the northeastern part of Italy, in Breganze, an enchanting village set like a small jewel at the foot of the Alps in Italy's Veneto region, this wine is fresh, beautiful and crisp. Mentioned as one of Italy's finest wine values, this wine is a blend of Tocai, Pinot Bianco and Pinot Grigio. It is well balanced on the palate with loads of fresh peaches and pears, followed by a crisp and fragrant finish. This is a must try with us or with antipasti, pasta with shellfish and vegetables, risotto and grilled white meats. ($14.99)

All wines during our weekend tastings are paired with fresh cheeses donated by Whole Foods Market in Cranston. To obtain information on the cheeses that have been selected, please stop in for a tasting or visit Whole Foods.
