  • Greetings!

We first want to wish everyone in advance a Happy Thanksgiving. May your day be safe, healthy and full of good cheer...and wine!

Already, we are experiencing an increased demand for champagne and sparkling wines in addition to gift baskets. To ensure you receive your favorite bubbly or have that perfect gift basket ready in time for the holidays, we at The Savory Grape suggest you call, send us an e-mail, or stop by the store to place your orders as soon as possible. It will be one less thing to think about during this hectic holiday season. As with all special orders, we are happy to keep your product for a few days, allowing you time for a convenient pick up. Remember, delivery is also available for your convenience - ask our staff for details or visit the delivery page of our web site for more details.

    The Savory Grape Updates

Beaujolais Nouveau is back! For those who missed out on last week's release of Beaujolais Nouveau, now you have a second chance. We will receive a single estate vineyard Beaujolais Primeur (Nouveau), $12.49, by producer Granger on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving. We are thrilled to be able to receive this allocation of wine. Only 2 cases are available, so please stop by early to pick up a bottle for Thanksgiving dinner. Also, to answer a question about Beaujolais Nouveau - you do not need to drink it within a week or month. Although very young, it can still be consumed 6 months down the road.

Remember, on Friday, November 24, the day after Thanksgiving, The Savory Grape will offer 10% off any of its wine gift baskets. The discount will apply to any wine basket purchased from the store that day or purchased through an order made that day. (You can select baskets by price or theme, such as Italian, California, French, Chocolate Lovers, just to name a few.) As a fun way to kick off the holiday season, we also will select two customers that day to be entered into a drawing for a free bottle of wine. So come out and enjoy the start of the holiday season! We will open at 9 am on Friday.

January Wine Class. We know many of you have been waiting patiently for the announcement of the next wine class date. We are working diligently to secure a date in January. Please stay tuned; we hope to have a confirmation within the next couple of weeks, just in time to give the class as a holiday gift!

    This Week's Savory Selections

If you missed our Savory wine recommendations for Thanksgiving dinner that we offered in our November 8th newsletter, you can still access them. Please visit the Newsletter Archive on the News and Events page of our web site and click on November 8 newsletter. To access immediately, click here. Also, following are a few other Thanksgiving recommendations that are coming in later today:

    • 2005 Tim Adams Riesling, Clare Valley, Australia ($17.99). This Riesling is bone dry and exhibits no sweetness as other Rieslings do. A perfect food wine with a crisp, light texture and body.
    • 2005 Knyphausen "Baron K" Riesling Kabinett, Rheingau, Germany ($16.99). An aromatic Riesling, full of apricot, peach and white flower aromas, this white is the complete opposite of Tim Adams Riesling. With a slight sweetness and light-to-medium viscosity, it also is a great match for the Thanksgiving table.
    • 2003 Domaine Monpertuis Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Tradition, France ($68). If you want to share wonderful wine with your Thanksgiving Day guests, or simply keep the wine for yourself, indulge in this Chateauneuf du Pape. From a Domaine that produces consistently high quality wines, this French red is drinking wonderfully now but also will last in your cellar for another 5-8 years.

    Weekend Tasting Selections

We will have special tasting selections this weekend to kick off the holiday season. So if your schedule permits, please stop in to visit with us. The selections will be available on the News and Events page of our web site on Thanksgiving night. So check it out. We look forward to seeing you and your out- of-town guests!

Please note our tasting schedule for this weekend.

    • Friday, November 24th, 5 pm -8 pm
    • Saturday, November 25th, 1 pm - 4 pm
