This Week's Savory Selections...Special and Everyday Finds |
 |
2005 Mitolo Jester Cabernet Sauvignon -
$21.99.
Mitolo's Jester Cabernet Sauvignon is a superb effort.
Almost black in color with a purple hue, it shows
luscious hints of ripe plums, loads of
blueberry and cassis fruit as well as hints of spices.
Superstar winemaker Ben Glaetzer makes a portion of
this wine using an Amarone-like technique.
Medium to full-bodied with a balanced acidity, ripe
tannins, and beautiful texture and length, this
stunning Cabernet overdelivers for its price! With a
total of only 4,000 cases produced, we are stocking
up on this wonderful Australian find, as we did with
Mitolo's Shiraz. Both the Cabernet and Shiraz have
received rave reviews by
Robert Parker.
2005 Irreverente Red Blend, Regional Beiras,
Portugal - $9.99. This silver medal winner of a
wine
master challenge is a ruby-colored wine with dark red
nuances. It exhibits a mouth full of ripened
plums, blackberries and cherries coupled with cocoa
and spice on the nose. It spends four months in oak
barrels and five months in the bottle. Hailing from
the Dao region, named after the river Dao, the
passion of the people's love for wine shines through in
this complex, rich and full-bodied delight.
2002 Benton Lane Pinot Noir, Oregon -
$22.99.
This is a fine Pinot Noir from Oregon. The vintage
alone has given the wine time to evolve and exhibit
some of its more complex characters that many
younger Pinots don't yet have. Aromas on
the nose show signs of black cherries, blackberries
and dark plums with hints of vanilla and spice from
oak barreling. The aromas translate to the taste
showing the finer elements of why we love Pinot Noir
from Oregon.
2002 Rengo Amarone, Italy - $41.99. This
wine is absolutely delicious. It is created by blending
local grape varieties and allowing the drying process
to preserve the sugars within the
must (juice inside the grape). The wine exhibits a
raison-like color, nose and taste. Yet, it is not a
sweet wine; rather it holds a full, round, intense and
complex nature. This fine Amarone will be enjoyed
with dishes that are rich in flavor, have rich sauces
and with cheese courses. Otherwise, simply enjoy
alone, meditating or with friends and family.

Weekend Tasting Selections |
 |
Friday, Nov. 17 (5 pm - 8 pm):
Pisani Party Blu Prosecco: This festive
Italian sparkler, produced by one of the key Prosecco
producers worldwide, is perfect for any holiday
occasion.
With its
fresh peach, apricot and nutty, yet dry, aromas and
flavors,
this is a great way
to kick off any Thanksgiving dinner party. It is
refreshing and can be your aperitif selection or an
adjunct to the main turkey dinner. In addition, the
beautiful blue bottle in which it is held will catch
anyone's eye. ($11.49)
2003 Terra Nostra Chianti Riserva: Terra
Nostra Chianti Riserva is made in the fashion of a
young Bordeaux - a classy, easy, friendly style. A
careful selection of premium grapes (primarily
Sangiovese) is followed by a temperature controlled
fermentation and a minimum of one year of aging in
large oak casks, plus 3 months more in the bottle.
This resulting red is pleasant, vibrant and delicious.
This is a wine with an affinity for pizza, bruschetta,
salads, and burgers (meat or veggie). So grab a
bottle to have when the Thanksgiving leftovers have
been finished.
($11.29)
Saturday, Nov. 18 (5 pm - 8 pm):
Chateau Saint Andre, Costières de Nimes,
France: Costières de Nimes is an area in
Southern France whose producers predominantly
make red and rosé wines from Carignane, Syrah,
Grenache, Cinsault, and Mourvèdre. This particular
red, which is from a great vintage, is primarily
Grenache with some Syrah and
Cinsault blended in as well. It is soft, medium-bodied
in nature, and full of raspberry, cherry and juicy
strawberry flavors. We suggest pairing with roasted
chicken dishes! ($10.49)
2005 Domaine Castera, Jurancon,
France:
This dry, bright, refreshing white wine is from
France's Southwest region
Jurancon. Unoaked and fresh, it has light apply
aromas but a rich palate that reverberates with
acidity. Because of its food friendly nature, it would
be right at home with many styles of food, or you
could
serve it as a "quaffing" wine before the meal. ($13.99)
