Greetings!
Whenever the month of August hits, I
automatically feel the end of summer drawing
near. Even though we have a good long month
of summer ahead of us, August is the time
when I need to think about buying for the
holiday season. Yes, you heard me correctly.
(However please note that we have refused to
become part of
the retail market that puts holiday items on
the shelves in October.)
When you are
enjoying a relaxing day at the beach, on your
boat or by the pool, I am thinking about
corporate gift baskets, holiday parties, new
fall wines and any other items we will need
for the Q4 season (Oct., Nov., Dec.) It's
interesting the game
of numbers we must play - trying to determine
how much of certain products we
need to order now for use in Q4. What a feat
that I find challenging yet fun at the same
time. However, if we don't get it just right
then we're either scrambling to get more of
what we lack or sell our overabundance in
January when, well, no one wants anything.
Whew, way too much holiday stuff to think
about in August. So, I'm hoping we got it
right, and am now going to continue enjoying
the rest of the summer while I work,
a silent cue
I have taken from many of you. We hope to see
you this weekend!
Cheers! Jessica and Nino Granatiero

August 7 Main Street Stroll. It is
time again
for another
East Greenwich Main Street Stroll on
Thursday, August 7, when the sidewalks will
be flooded with many great musicians and
artists.
As always, The Savory Grape will hold a
special wine tasting from 5 - 8 PM. So
please join us as we
taste some staff favorites under $11.
New Hours at TSG. Due to customer
demand we are expanding our shop hours. Starting
Monday ,
August 11, The
Savory Grape will open at 10 AM, instead of
11 AM, Monday through Friday. We also will
now open at 9:30 AM on Saturday, instead of
10 AM. Sunday hours and closing hours will
remain the same. We hope these hours are more
accommodating for you.
August 25th Wine Tasting. The Better
Off Here" Wine Tasting, featuring wines whose
grapes are grown in their native regions (ie.
a Cabernet from Napa, Sangiovese from Italy),
will be held on
Monday, August 25 at 7 PM at Main Street
Coffee (MSC). Please call ahead to
reserve your
seat. Tickets are $25 and must be
purchased at time of reservation at TSG
(886-9463) or MSC (885-8787).
TSG is Going Green. We had mentioned
that The Savory Grape would be
going green and switching from the 4- and
6-bottle cardboard boxes to reusable fabric wine
totes. The wait is almost over. The totes are
expected to arrive next week. The bags
can be purchased for $1.99, and then every time
after that
when you bring your bag in to purchase at
least two
bottles of wine we will take 25 cents
off your total. After only eight visits, the
bag will pay for itself, and we'll be doing
our part for Mother Earth.
Save the Date - Fall Wine Festival. We
are proud to announce that the 2nd Annual
Fall Charity Wine Festival will be held on
November 15th at the Varnum Memorial
Armory in East Greenwich. Please plan to join
us to
enjoy a
lovely night of music, delicious food,
and of course many wines. Last year's event
was a complete success, donating more than
$7,000 to the RI Community Food
Bank. This year we hope for the same. All
profits will benefit the
RI Community Action Association.
This incredible organization works toward
helping RI families in need of everything
from heating assistance to medical care. For

2006 Cavas Submarinas Reserva Pinot
Noir/Carmenere, Chile. The wait is over;
Cavas
Submarinas is back at the shop! For those of
you who have yet to
experience this unforgettable red from Chile,
now is the time to do so. Cavas Submarinas,
from the
Itata valley in Chile, is the first "Pinot
Noir-Carmenere"
blend from Chile. An exotic red, the wine is
silky
smooth with rich flavors of black cherry,
plum and
hints of nutmeg spice from the Carmenere. Medium
bodied and richer than most Pinot Noirs, the
wine will
stand up to foods that are both heavier in
body and
flavor. This is a staff favorite at The
Savory Grape as
well as a favorite to many of you. We
suggest you act
quickly while it's still available. ($25.99)
Fat Tree Wines
Fat Tree, made by Australia's renowned
Arrowfield Estate, is a punchy, chic,
eye-catching
brand that offers
outstanding modern design on the outside and
great, fruit-driven, well-structured wines on
the inside. We are excited to offer these
great value wines.
2006 Fat Tree Shiraz/Cabernet,
Australia.
This Shiraz Cabernet is a blend of fruit from
various
premium winegrowing regions across Australia.
Aromas of plum and blackberry fruit jump out
of the
glass. The palate is full of juicy berry
flavors with a
hint of oak and finishes with soft silky
tannins making
this a very easy drinking red. This Shiraz
Cabernet is
great with pizza or with a BBQ during the summer
months. ($13.49)
2006 Fat Tree Chardonnay, Australia. The
2006 Fat Tree Chardonnay is made from a blend of
grapes grown in the Upper Hunter Valley (less
than 2 hours from Sydney) and
Mornington Peninsula, an hour south of
Melbourne. This is an unoaked,
fruit driven
Chardonnay with warmer climate melon, peach and
pineapple flavors complemented by cooler
climate citrus flavors. A soft medium bodied
palate is
balanced by a clean finish. This Chardonnay is
excellent on its own or with buttery seafood and
chicken dishes. ($13.49)

Saturday, August 9th (3 to 7 PM) A Trip to Italy
-
2006 Cusumano Syrah, Sicily, Italy.
Sicily is home to Cusumano and many great red
wines, including the renowned grape Nero
d'Avola,
which Cusumano produces. However it also
produces a 100% varietal Syrah that beautifully
envelopes the mouth. Third generation
winemakers
and brothers Diego and Alberto Cusumano work not
only with exciting native varietals, but also
with many
international grapes, such as Syrah. This
wine is full
bodied with great dark berry flavors and a
nice creamy
and smooth mouth feel. This wine pair
exceptionally
well with pasta dishes, especially stuffed
shells.
($15.99)
- 2007 La Villetta Frascati, Italy.
La Villetta Frascati, a blend of Malvasia and
Trebbiano, is a beautiful
pale
straw in color with greenish, golden hints.
The nose
shows a delicate, fruit, floral fragrance
while in the
mouth the wine is citrusy fresh and elegant
with a
clean,
crisp finish. Ideal as an aperitif, La
Villetta will pair
well with grilled white fish, such as Bass,
and poultry as well as spicy cuisine.
($10.99)
