Weekend Wine Tastings
Quick Links
Greetings!

Last night, we had a fantastic time during our monthly wine dinner at EG's Siena Restaurant. We are already taking reservations for future month's dinners so stop in or call us to book your seat.

As the weather slowly gets warmer, this is usually a time when many of us start changing our wine wardobe - from rich, heavy selections to lighter, fresh styles that pair best with summer's fare. Come out to join us for this weekend's wine tastings as we feature a nice selection of new favorites that speak summer and pair well with the grill.

And speaking of grilling, don't forget dad in a few weeks on Father's Day. The Savory Grape Wine Clubs are great gifts. There is still time to sign up and get your favorite gentleman enrolled for June. Contact us for details

Enjoy!

This Week's Savory Selections

Wildrock Sauvignon Blanc2008 Wild Rock Elevation Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand.  Elevation is made from sustainably grown parcels of Sauvignon Blanc seasoned lightly with wonderfully ripe spicy peach laden Viognier and some citrus infused cool climate Riesling. The wine is New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc with a twist - still the classic New Zealand gooseberry, less of the grassiness and grapefruit, but more of the lime, floral and stone fruit. Crisp, spicy, and delicious. Food pairings: This is a definite must for the summer; enjoy wherever there is sun, surf or seafood, especially with grilled scallops or shrimp. ($16.99)

2007 Allan Scott Pinot Noir, New Zealand. New Zealand Pinot Noir is often overlooked and underrated. Allan Scott's Pinot grabs your attention with cherry, raspberry and violet aromas which mix very well with the new French oak, used for aging. The smoky oak is prevalent but does not dominate allowing the fruit to express itself. Elegant raspberry and cherry flavors on the palate with a nice structural balance of acids, tannins and oak combined with soft richness. Food pairings: Try with blackened sea bass or cajun-spiced grilled fish. Coming Friday. ($19.99)

trivento2006 Trivento Amado Sur, Argentina.
Handpicked Malbec, Syrah and Bonarda from Mendoza are used to create this masterpiece of a wine. After being aged for 8 months in French oak and an additional 6 months in bottle, Amado Sur opens with plum and red berry aromas with notes of black pepper and anise. The palate shows rich berry, chocolate and a touch of cinnamon with velvety thick tannins and a persistent and pleasant finish. Food pairings: This wine is screaming for grilled lamb chops, a hearty filet mignon or gorgonzola stuffed burgers. ($15.49)

2008 Red Tree Pinot Noir, California. The 2008 Red Tree Pinot Noir displays bright aromas of fresh fruits and strawberries, with a hint of oak in the background. This lighter-bodied wine provides cherry flavors on the palate and more red fruits, finishing with a soft, easy finish. Food pairings: This wine is perfect for everyday drinking and will pair well with grilled chicken or shrimp kebobs or sauteed scallops. It will also be a nice partner for a salad of field greens, strawberries and chevre. ($9.49)
Spellbound Chardonnay

2006 Spellbound Chardonnay, California. In the summer, many of us often change from drinking Chardonnay to something a little lighter. However this selection with a smooth, creamy full mouthfeel and bright acidity is still great for summer. Ninety percent of the wine has been aged in small French and American oak barrels giving the wine complex characteristics of fresh vanilla and lush crème brulee. The other 10% was aged in stainless steel maintaining the wines fresh acidity and crisp tropical fruit flavors. Food pairings: Enjoy Spellbound on its own or with a variety of cuisine from Asia or the fiery Southwest. ($16.99)
