The Savory Grape Wine Shop Newsletter |

Greetings!
We want to offer a big thank you to those who
were able to stop by the shop last week to
meet Italy's Sergio Mionetto and sample a
variety of his Proseccos. Although Sergio had
to depart early for his birthday celebration,
we had a wonderful time enjoying his
sparkling selections paired with delightful
cheeses provided by Whole Foods Market in
Cranston. Thank you for your support. If you
can, stop in for this weekend's wine
tastings, which are also paired with cheeses
provided by Whole Foods.
Cheers! Jessica and Nino Granatiero

This Week's Savory Selections |
 |
2006 Cono Sur Syrah, Chile. The
producer Cono Sur is not new to us, but its
Syrah is. Sent to us by mistake, this is a
selection that we didn't want to send back.
Once we opened and tasted it, we were amazed
by its quality. A dark red,
almost black color is the
first hint of
this wine's richness and bold style. Its
vigor and zeal
can be felt in an intensely fruity nose,
where notes of cherries combine with smoky
hints and
chocolate. In the mouth this Syrah is tasty
and juicy
with very intense black berry and plum notes,
balanced
acidity and a
long, elegant and persistent finish. ($10.99)
2006 Clos des Briods Muscadet, Loire,
France.
Clos des Briods is made from a single plot
vineyard. Planted in 1930, the grapes used
for this cuvee are
among
the oldest of the Olivier estate in the
Loire. The nose of this Muscadet is loaded with
aromas of green apple and anise. Refreshing and
pure, the wine is also a concentrated mix of
citrus fruit
flavors and a touch of white pepper. This
impressive
bottling will improve over the next few years
and become
even more complex. Enjoy with its best
partner - oysters. ($13.99)
2006 Bouchard Ainé & Fils Mâcon-Villages,
France. This wine is composed of 100%
Chardonnay from the Mâconnais region of
Burgundy,
France. Pale gold with green tints, the wine
is brilliant
and clear. On the nose flowery, fruity
aromas are
accompanied by notes of citrus fruits, mint and
honeysuckle. In the mouth the wine is
well-balanced
with dominant notes of grass and flowers.
Like many Chardonnays from the Mâcon
Villages, this one is dry, light, lively,
charming and
fresh. It is the perfect selection for
fresh-water fish, mussels and
goats'
milk cheese. ($12.49)

Weekend Wine Tastings |
 |
Friday, June 27th (5 to 8 PM)
Summer Selections from France
- 2005 Domaine André Brunel Vin de Pays de
Vaucluse Grenache, France.
A favorite among many at a recent,
offsite wine tasting, this Grenache, from the
Rhone area, is
very dark
garnet in color with a thin, clear edge. It
is beautifully
fresh and rather delicate with pleasant
raspberry
aromas. Red fruit carries over onto the
palate with a
subtle "stony" minerality which adds
character and a fresh-
fruit acidity. This is a great companion for
grilled pork chops and sharp cheeses. ($9.99)
- 2006 Clos des Briods Muscadet, Loire,
France.
Please see tasting notes
above in
this week's Savory Selections. ($13.99)
Saturday, June 28th (3 to 7 PM)
New Staff Favorites
- 2005 Tintoralba Loma Gorda, Spain.
Not only is it a staff favorite, but this new
addition to the shop has quickly become a
client favorite too. Loma Gorda is a blend of
65% old-vine
Garnacha and
35% Syrah which has been aged for 6 months in
French and American oak. Purple in color, the
wine
offers an expressive nose of pepper, grilled
meat and
black cherry. On the palate, there is an
abundance of
crunchy, spicy dark fruits, a good
integration of wood,
from its time in oak barrels, tannins and
acidity. The
finish is bright, expressive and pure,
leaving the
mouth with a soft, silky coating. This is a
selection that
is meant to be consumed young, during the
next
2-3 years. ($12.49)
- 2006 Bouchard Ainé & Fils
Mâcon-Villages,
France.
Please see tasting notes above in this week's
Savory
Selections. ($12.49)
- 2006 Cono Sur Syrah, Chile.
Please see tasting notes above in this week's
Savory
Selections. ($10.99)
