  • Greetings!

Although the official start of summer is still two weeks away, it sure feels like it's in full force with multiple 90-degree days. Remember The Savory Grape is air conditioned and is a great place to beat the heat. We have expanded our chilled wine and beer selection with the recent addition of another cooler, so stop in and grab a chilled white or a 6-pack of beer to help you cool down. If you don't feel like leaving the pool or your AC, give us a call and arrange for a delivery. It also helps you avoid filling your tank with $4 gasoline!!

In addition to expanding our chilled beverage selection, The Savory Grape is going green. In an effort to help preserve the planet, in a couple of months we will be switching to reusable wine totes, replacing the 4-bottle and 6-bottle cardboard carriers. Just like at some grocery stores, you will have the opportunity to purchase these new totes for $2 and receive $0.25 every time you use it for the purchase of at least two bottles of wine. In just eight visits, your initial purchase will be covered, and the Johnston Landfill will have that much less waste. (Of course, we will always have other forms of free packaging.)

Lastly, don't forget Father's Day this weekend. Have you purchased a gift yet for Dad? If not stop by The Savory Grape to get Dad the perfect gift. The Savory Grape Wine Clubs are great gifts as well as many of the different wine accessories that we carry. Contact us for ideas or stop in the store and see what we have to offer.

    Cheers! Jessica and Nino Granatiero

    This Week's Savory Selections
    parcela 7

2004 Viña von Siebenthal Parcela #7, Chile. Viña von Siebenthal is a boutique winery located in the Aconcagua Valley, cradled between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Parcela #7, a blend of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 20% Petit Verdot and 15% Cabernet Franc, is deep red cherry in color. This Bordeaux-style blend begins with intense floral aromas blended nicely with notes of French oak. The wine is wonderfully balanced with sweet tannins and a very pleasing finish. ($21.99)

2004 Montevina Sierra Foothills Zinfandel, California. The 2004 Sierra Foothills Zinfandel is a joy to meet. Fruit forward and sassy, this is a wine you want to run into everyday. Montevina is perfect for any barbecue, for hosting a party, or while enjoying a quiet moment. The wine has aromas of blackberry, cassis, and pepper that gently waft from the glass. In the mouth dark berry flavors with a spiced palate are just enough without being too much. ($10.99)

2006 Andretti Selections Fumé Blanc, California. Andretti Winery takes its inspiration from the distinguished career of the namesake and founder, Mario Andretti, the world's foremost auto racing champion. The nose of this Fume Blanc is very expressive with an array of citrus notes and hints of passion fruit and oak. The flavors follow, with added flavors of apple, a strong, balanced mouth feel, and a clean long finish. It's made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc. ($12.99)

2005 Wildhurst Lake County Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, California. The Wildhurst Lake County Cabernet is a blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Syrah. This blend produces a wine that is very rich with ripe blackberry and plum notes. There is a slightly rustic edge which turns to coffee and mineral notes with a hint of spice echoing in the finish. The wine was fermented in 100% stainless steel tanks then aged for 15 months in American Oak. ($13.99)

    • 2007 Nessa Albarino, Spain. Not a new wine to the store, but this selection is a new vintage that we want to share with you. From the lovely region of Rias Baixas in Galicia on the Western coast of Spain, Nessa is stainless steel fermented and then aged on its lees for several weeks. Pale gold and just slightly effervescent, it has a very aromatic nose (as one expects from Albariño) filled with apples and limes. On the palate, you get a blast of lime zest and spice that make your mouth water. Year after year this wine continues to grab our attention and has succeeded once again. It begs for fresh seafood. ($14.99)
    • 2004 Montevina Sierra Foothills Zinfandel, California. Please see tasting notes above in this week's Savory Selections. ($10.99)
