1995 E.Guigal Chateauneuf du Pape, France.
1995-what a great vintage to drink! And for
you wine lovers and aficionados this is one to
have. A
blend of primarily Grenache, Syrah and
Mourvedre,
this wine exhibits a deep dark red with
aromas of spices and red berry fruits. When
we tasted it, the wine was
exceptionally smooth due to its age and time
in bottle.
Full of harmony and balance, it is rich with
flavors of
mature plums, hazelnuts and red fruits. The
tannins
again because of its age have softened
revealing its
powerful complexity. It is at the perfect age
to drink and
enjoy now! ($39.99)
2006 Quattro Mani Montepulciano D'Abruzzo,
Italy. Quattro Mani, meaning "four
hands," is the concept of
Italian
wine importer Paolo Domeneghetti. His idea
was to
have specific wines created by four
well-respected
winemakers,
each
from a different Italian wine region. All
wines would be
marketed wearing the Quattro Mani label. The
first
wine made under this label is its Montepulciano
D'Abruzzo, a velvety, young red with light
cherry aromas and flavors and some blackberry
pie
character. The wine is full, soft and round,
with lots of
fruit and lots for the price. This is one to
drink now. ($9.99)
2007 Clean Slate Riesling, Germany.
Coming to us from the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region of
Germany, Clean Slate may be just the perfect
dry, and yes this is a dry Riesling, summer
white for you. Aromas of tropical fruits and
floral notes
fill the nose while flavors of peach dominate
the palate
along with some mineral notes. This
has quickly
become a staff favorite, and we recommend
trying this
new treat with any grilled light fish. ($12.99)
2004 SoJo Shiraz, South Africa.
Again, this has become another staff
favorite. The
fruit for
this wine comes from the Darling area, near
the West
Coast of South Africa. The vineyards are
located in
strategically selected sites which get the
warm, sunny
days and cooling effects of the Atlantic
Ocean, all
influencing the balance of the wine. The
result is a
medium bodied red displaying aromas of wild
berries
and soft spices. In the mouth the wine explodes
with flavors of raspberry, supported by a
soft spice structure. ($9.99)
2006 Delas Saint-Esprit Cotes du Rhone,
France.
Not a new wine to the store, but a new
vintage. And we are very impressed. This
vintage is
comprised of only Syrah and Grenache. The
wine has
wonderful dusty aromas of earth and red
fruit. In the mouth,
loads of berry flavors come through leading
to a slight
spice on the finish. A very complex wine
for the price,
the Saint-Esprit Cotes du Rhone is one to
look for on
the under $11 table. ($10.99)
