Greetings!
Last night we had a wonderful evening with Todd Anderson of Napa's Conn Valley Vineyard. Anderson was in EG for a brief visit to kick off his wine lineup in RI. Anderson, a geophysicist by trade, is an interesting man who makes a grand presence with his 6 foot+ stature and comedic personality.
In all seriousness, the lineup we sampled with him was stunning - 2007 Conn Valley Chardonnay ($56.99); 2006 Conn Valley Right Bank ($62.99); 2005 Conn Valley Estate Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (sold out at winery) and 2005 Conn Valley Eloge ($95.99). Showing beautifully last night, I am eager to see what the wines will taste like in five or more years, when I think they will be in their glory. I say this because Todd shared with us his '02 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and '05 Chardonnay, and they were lovely - smooth, mellow and occupying great complexity that evolved over a 2-hour period.
If you collect or just want a nice bottle, these we highly recommend. And hey, being accompanied by 90+ scores is an added plus. We have a few signed bottles left too, so come in to grab one or shop online (Put the words "Signed bottle" in the gift card message box. A signed bottle is not guaranteed.) Don't forget - it will be Memorial Day weekend, so come enjoy time off with us during our weekend tastings. | |

It may not be talked about as much as Burgundy or Bordeaux, but France's Rhône Valley is not to be forgotten. It is an area of contrast. In the North, some of the world's longest-lived wines are produced: rare and aromatic whites or tannic and massively structured reds. In the South, you have your veritable pick of the litter from the hearty everyday reds or the famous, high quality wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Cotes du Rhone and Cotes du Ventoux. We hope you'll come sample a couple of wines from this region with us on Friday evening! 2005 Domaine de Vieux Lazaret Châteauneuf du Pape, France. The 2005 Domaine du Vieux Lazaret Châteauneuf-du-Pape is testimony to just how good Old Vine Grenache can be from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Offering up an entrancing bouquet of kirsch, black fruits and exotic spice, the palate is fleshy, jammy, and ohhh so drinkable. Lush and low in acid, this Châteauneuf finishes as easily and seductively as it begins. We recommend drinking through 2015. ($32.99)
2007 Domaine de Fenouillet Cotes du Ventoux Rouge, France. The Cotes du Ventoux, situated in the southern part of France's Rhone Valley, has long been known for producing very soft and approachable red wins. This wine is 100% Grenache giving off ripe, red fruit backed by soft herbal notes. On the palate, the wine is very soft with a balanced acidity making it easy to drink and easy to pair with food. It will be great with grilled meats and BBQ for this holiday weekend.($13.99)
2007 Finca el Origen Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon, Argentina. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Argentina's Uco Valley sub-appellation features a deep, dark garnet color. Fresh aromas of raspberries enhanced by slight coffee and tobacco notes fill the nose while ripe, red fruit flavors flood the palate leading to a lush and persistent finish. This is a great everyday wine that packs a punch. ($11.99)
2007 Finca el Origen Reserva Torrontés, Argentina. Finca el Origen's Torrontés, from Argentina's northerly Cafayate Valley, is true to the blueprint, showing fresh lychee, honeydew and acacia aromas. Meanwhile, enjoyable lemon-lime flavors, green-herb notes and a touch of citrus pith will awake your palate. Drink now to enjoy this one's lingering tropical freshness. ($11.99)
