  • Greetings!

As we have been telling you these past few weeks, we will commemorate the two-year anniversary of The Savory Grape this weekend. In celebration of this event, we will offer a 15% discount on this weekend's tasting selections and will hold 3 separate drawings to win a Wine Club Level 1 Membership for a month. We also are very excited to introduce the beautiful floral inspired art by Elena Avanesova at the shop. So please come in out of the rain this weekend to celebrate our anniversary and the arrival of Avanesova and her beautiful works. See below for complete event details.

Again, we truly hope to gain your support in RI Monthly's "Best of RI" contest. From now through May 1, you can cast your vote in one of two ways. You can fill out the postage paid ballot in the RI Monthly April issue or you can click here. You would then click on the "Vote Now" banner in the middle of the screen. Then you would scroll down to the West Bay section, where we hope you will consider The Savory Grape for Best Wine Shop, West Bay! **2006 Winner Best New Wine Shop in RI and 2007 Winner Best Wine Shop, West Bay.

Note: Due to some web server problems, we have not been able to update the News and Events page of our web site. We apologize for this inconvenience. We hope to have this issue resolved soon.

    The Savory Grape Upcoming Events

April 11th Wine Tasting, Ku de Ta Wines. Just arriving into RI is a new collection of wines known as Ku De Ta. Unlike most traditional wines that source all their varietals from the same region, Ku de Ta wines are sourced from various regions of the world growing the best grapes for each individual wine varietal. We are pleased to welcome distributor David Aiello of Martignetti Wines who will taste with us this collection of Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec from 5-8 PM.

April 12th Wine Tasting and Opening Exhibition. Please join us on Saturday, April 12 from 4-8 PM to welcome artist Elena Avanesova during a wine tasting and opening reception. We are thrilled to be joined by Carlos Figueroa of Chile Boutique Wines who will feature an array of international selections. Carlos' portfolio includes many wines that have become Savory Grape staff and client favorites including Cavas Submarinas Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc, Las Loicas Cabernet Sauvignon and In Situ Syrah, just to name a few.The vivid works of Avanesova will be on display at The Savory Grape from now until July. Created primarily in oil on canvas, her works challenge our views of magnificent color palette and perspective, while remaining rooted in a familiar floral setting. Elena has lived and worked around the world. Her works have been featured in private collections in Switzerland, Ireland, Turkey and the US. To see more of Elena's work, please visit www.avanart.com

    This Week's Savory Selections
    SBack Label

2006 Heartland " Stickleback " Red Blend, Australia. Another Aussie red that comes to us from renowned importer Epicurean Wines, which also imports other favorites such as The Black Chook, Woop Woop and DeLisio, is the full bodied, luscious blend of Cabernet, Shiraz and Grenache. A wopping 90 points by Robert Parker, this selection has an enticing perfume of spice box, black cherry, black currant, and blackberry. Ripe, sweet, and layered on the palate, this is an incredible value and a new staff favorite that is being scooped up quickly! ($12.99)

2006 Elyse Petite Sirah, Napa Valley. Elyse is a great name for beautiful red wines, and you may have seen some of the selections at the shop. If you know Petite Sirah you will notice that Elyse's is a classic - opaque blackish-purple in color with intense aromatics of violets, smoky bacon, deep black fruits, crème de cassis and hints of dusty earth and black pepper. This full-bodied wine has rich flavors of dark plums, blueberries and blackberries with a touch of mocha. Lush fruit carries this big wine to a long and pleasing finish. ($33.99)

2006 Bodegas Muga Blanco, Spain. Bodegas Muga is a well known Spanish house that receives much acclaim for its lineup of wines. Its white, (Blanco as they call it) made from the two unique grapes Viura and Malvasia, is fresh and crisp with full aromas of citrus fruits and apples, which are characteristic of this wine. On the palate, the wine is soft, and it has notes of vanilla, spice and citrus that mingle with a hint of coconut from the wine fermenting in oak barrels. This is a wonderful alternative to Chardonnay and great for Spring. ($13.99)
