It is also that time when RI Monthly Magazine holds its Best of RI contest. Through April 30, we hope to gain your support in this contest by voting us Best Wine Shop, West Bay. Voting is only available online by clicking here. Then you would scroll down to the West Bay section, where we hope you will consider The Savory Grape for Best Wine Shop, West Bay! We were the 2006 Winner Best New Wine Shop in RI, Best Wine Newsletter and 2007 Winner Best Wine Shop, West Bay. Thank you again, and please tell all your friends and fellow oenophiles where to vote.

This Week's Savory Selections
2007 Plungerhead Zinfandel, Lodi, California. After months of searching, we finally found an Old Vine Zin for which we have been looking. Plungerhead's Lodi Zinfandel is medium-plum in color with rich and sappy French oak, ripe raspberry and blueberry notes. The core of the wine is very robust with dark fruit including black cherry and cassis followed by generous and integrated spice flavors of anise and licorice. Ample coffee flavors on the backside lead to a classic old vine, resinous finish. Although rich, this wine will lead into summer perfectly - great with BBQ and grilled meats. ($16.99)
2006 Line 39 Cabernet Sauvignon, Lake County, California. Move out of the way Napa and watch out Sonoma, Lake County is coming in hot. Following the success of Line 39's Sauvignon Blanc, the Cabernet Sauvignon is also one to keep you coming back for more. Aromas of bright red fruits, blackberry, tobacco and cedar are complemented by elegant, chewy black fruit flavors and subtle tannins to make this one very enjoyable Cab. An instant staff favorite, you'll see why we love it. ($10.99)
2006 Gerard Bertrand Reserve Speciale Pinot Noir, France. This 100% Pinot Noir comes from the coolest altitude vineyards in the Languedoc. Robust, it opens to reveal ripe cherry fruit and wild raspberry flavors, notes of nutmeg and brown spice with silky tannins and an elegant, balanced finish. Enjoy slightly chilled with lamb, turkey and ham. A perfect Easter selection that will be on our table. ($14.99)
2006 Chalone Estate Grown Chardonnay, California. The 2006 Estate Chardonnay captures the expression of Chalone terroir with layers of citrus, apple and pineapple characters. Hints of brioche, hazelnut and mineral weave through the lush fruit flavors. The distinctive minerality in this wine comes from Chalone vineyard's unique limestone and decomposed granite soils. This quality contributes to the wine's aging potential - as the fruitiness diminishes, the minerality continues to add complexity. Ten months of aging broadens the mouthfeel and enhances its rich, silky texture. ($34.99)

2008 Chateau Bellevue La Foret Rose, Cote du Frontonnais, France. Easter means Spring, and Spring means the return of Rosés. Let's kick off the season with Chateau Bellevue Rose - a great, dependable, inexpensive rose from Southwestern France. This blend of Négrette, Syrah and Gamay produces a fragrant nose of roses, thyme, lemon and lush strawberry. The well-structured palate reveals fresh and crisp characteristics of red berries with a touch of white pepper and mint through the finish. Hard to beat at this price! ($11.99) Coming Thursday. 2006 Gerard Bertrand Reserve Speciale Pinot Noir, France. Please see tasting notes above in this week's Savory Selections. ($14.99)
2006 Domaine des Entrefaux Crozes-Hermitage, France. Made from 100% Syrah from the Northern Rhone Valley, this wine is screaming for lamb. Aromas of cherry and plum with hints of liquorice and dark chocolate fill the nose. The palate is plump and juicy with moderately concentrated dark berry flavors and gentle tannins; supple, persistent and extremely easy to drink, impress those at Easter. ($27.49) |
