The Savory Grape Wine Shop Newsletter |
 |
|
|
|
Greetings!
With St. Patrick's Day behind us, we hope
everyone
had a fun and safe weekend. We now have this
week to get ready for yet another weekend
holiday, Easter. It's hard to believe that
Easter is already
here, and it is time to, yet again, prepare
another feast
to enjoy with family and friends. With the
feast, you will
most likely need some wine. So please find
below various Easter suggestions that Patrick
and I put together to accompany your meal
this Sunday.
If you are running around furiously at the last
minute, as I always am, trying to get things
ready for your Easter holiday and feel you
might not have time to stop into the shop,
remember The Savory Grape delivers for
free to EG, NK and most of
Warwick. So with gas prices at an all time
high, save your money; let us do the driving
and deliver your selections to you. See the
delivery
& pick up page of our web site for more
information.
Updates: As we mentioned in last week's
newsletter,
each week
we feature new/special arrivals that we call
"Savory Selections." Now through the end of
March,
we will offer you a 10%
discount
on that week's Savory Selections that are
featured in our newsletter. (Scroll down in
the newsletter to see which selections are
10% off.) So make sure you check them out in
each week's newsletter. To find
them in our shop, look under the
"Savory Selections" sign on the front room's
back wall or simply ask us. They will also
have a red dot on
their tag.
Lolonis' Ladybug Red, an organically grown
wine, is finally coming back in stock. It
will arrive into the store on Wednesday,
March 19. We are taking most of what is
coming into RI, so to ensure you receive your
supply, please email or call us with the
amount you would like. As a reminder, we
always offer a 5% discount when purchasing
6-11 bottles and a 10% discount when
purchasing 12 or more bottles.
Cheers! Jessica and Nino Granatiero

Wine Recommendations for Easter |
 |
As warmer weather and Easter arrive,
it is time to start thinking about new
wine selections. We're sure some of you may
be able to drink a
Cabernet any time of year, but others may enjoy
changing things a bit and drinking wines more
suited to the
weather. So as you put away your winter
clothes and bring out your warm weather
wardrobe,
think about doing the same with your wine.
Maybe you
want to experiment with Pinot Noir or a
Beaujolais for red wine, a
Rosé (what a perfect time of year to drink
Rosé), or even bright, fresh white wines.
Whatever the case, following are some
suggestions that
will
allow you to ease into this new season and
prepare for the Easter weekend. However for
specific recommendations to pair with your Easter
meal, please stop in the shop.
2006 Veramonte Pinot Noir Riserva, Chile.
This Pinot Noir evokes aromas of red berries
mingling with luscious notes of toast and
vanilla. On
the mouth, there are bright black cherry and
strawberry
flavors with touches of sweet, yet spicy, oak
from its
barreling and aging. This is truly a mouth
filling,
medium bodied wine that is loaded with rich
texture. A great partner for ham or baked
pork chops
($18.99)
2006 Cairanne Cotes du Rhone
France.
This beautiful red is a fruity & smooth Cotes
du Rhone. Including mostly Grenache with some
Syrah, Cinsault & Carignane added, it offers
a medium body with bright aromas and flavors
of soft red and black berries that lead into
a dry
finish. Again,
a great partner for baked ham, roasted
turkey, and if having for brunch, egg
souffle. ($9.99)
2007 Chateau de Peyrassol Cotes de
Provence
Rosé "Commanderie," France
This is a workhorse Rosé from an appellation
(Provence) known for its
brilliance
in this
category. The wine is fresh and lively on the
palate yet
nicely dry with a mineral finish. This
Commanderie
Cuvée Rosé is the product of a blend of
Cinsault,
Grenache and Syrah. Rosé is the perfect wine
for Easter Sunday brunch or pairing with
baked ham or roasted turkey with rosemary.
($19.99)
2004 Ceretto Asij Barbersco, Italy.
This Italian red will take your Easter to a
higher level. Good intensity of wild berries
on the nose, with hints of withered flowers,
the wine boasts loads of flavor and body. On
the palate, the experience is reminiscent of
black cherry, black berry and plums that
integrate nicely with soft vanilla notes.
This is a nice pairing for roasted beef or
filet mignon. ($49.99)
2006 Baron K' Riesling Kabinett, Germany.
The Baron K estate is one of the oldest
Rheingau
estates, having been founded in 1141 by the
Cistercian Monks. The gentle slope of the
vineyard
hills towards the Rhine River allows for
slightly
warmer conditions with a natural irrigation
system,
thus creating an aromatic Riesling, full of
apricot,
peach and white flower aromas with a slight
sweetness and light-to-medium viscosity. ($16.99)
2005 Hugel & Fils Les Amours Pinot
Blanc
Alsace, France.
The bouquet of this wine is fresh and
attractive, yet
vivaciously young, crisp and open, with superbly
balanced fruit aromas of green apple,
citronella,
lemon balm and sweet almond. On the palate the
wine is dry, with a nice balance of acidity
that awakens the
taste
buds and refreshing coolness. It has a subtle,
delicate
softness that only Pinot Blanc can give.
($17.99)
Black Chook Sparkling Shiraz, Australia.
Want the best of both worlds? This wine
offers it all! A
full bodied offering that combines attributes
of fruit
with tannins, sweetness and bubbles to deliver
rich
concentrated flavors and a full and rewarding
palate. A perfect partner to a fruit compote
or a rich, chocolate dessert.
($17.99)

This Week's Savory Selections |
 |
2003 Norman Vineyards No Nonsense Red, Paso
Robles, California. This delightful
wine has all
the classic varietal characteristics of a
Meritage blend:
bright, floral aromas of cherry and berry, an
herbal
component of tobacco leaf and black olive, and a
resinous note of cedar. Medium-bodied, it is
nicely
balanced with supple tannins, firm acidity and a
pleasant robust red berry flavor that lingers
on the palate. Perfect
with roast pork or rib-eye steak, it is
enjoyable now
and will age well through 2012. The blend is
comprised of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot
and 14% Cabernet Franc. ($19.99)
2006 Tilia Chardonnay, Argentina.
The Tilia Malbec/Syrah has been such a
big hit that we finally tasted the vineyard's
Chardonnay. We were equally as impressed with
this selection as an everyday white wine. The
nose presents
ripe
tropical fruit aromas with citrus and floral
notes. The
mouthfeel is full and rich, with concentrated
pear and
fig fruit flavors with layers of vanilla and
sweet spice
from light oak aging. The finish is clean and
fresh with a
bright, crisp acidity. ($10.99)
2006 Tilia Merlot, Argentina.
Again, another great value wine from Tilia. Its
Merlot presents a dark violet color with
reddish tones.
The nose is full of ripe plum and cherry
aromas with
light notes of chocolate and toast. The
mouthfeel is
soft and gentle with excellent texture,
showing jammy
red fruit flavors and finishing with supple
tannins and
vibrant acidity. ($10.99)
2005 Chateau Pipeau St Emilion Grand Cru,
France.
This is a fine red Bordeaux that we think
takes your wine experience to another level.
Rated 92 points by Wine Advocate's
Robert Parker, it has
intense aromas of ripe fruit, spices and
espresso. It is full-bodied, chewy and just
delightful. It is impressively concentrated
for its vintage, yet balanced. Quite young
now, this wine will be a beauty to drink in
about 2-3 years, and should age for 15
years. ($49.99)
2007 Chateau de Peyrassol Cotes de
Provence
Rosé "Commanderie," France
This is a workhorse Rosé from an appellation
(Provence) known for its
brilliance
in this
category. The wine is fresh and lively on the
palate yet
nicely dry with a mineral finish. This
Commanderie
Cuvée Rosé is the product of a blend of
Cinsault,
Grenache and Syrah. Rosé is the perfect wine
for Easter Sunday brunch or pairing with
baked ham or roasted turkey with rosemary.
